Detoxing Your Home

Earth Day is soon upon us but sadly, this year brings additional personal challenges. Generally, I have fun hosting a green celebration sharing tips and tricks. In fact I’ve even given out trees, green samples and prizes. Yet this year has a different mood. Our town has experienced a horrific toxic fire. (If curious, google Richmond, Indiana warehouse fire)

Now in light of the additional toxins floating all around us, there is a more serious urgent note to my message. It is vitally important to reduce the toxins within your home but also the toxic load you have within your bodies.

May I offer a few simple tips?

  1. It’s vitally important to make sure your household cleaning products are safe. Click here for a checklist.
  2. Switch to natural brands of toiletries including shampoo, toothpaste, antiperspirants and cosmetics.
  3. Use non-toxic alternatives for controlling insects and pests. I have a formula I use for my garden comprised of an organic cleaning product and water.
  4. Become a crazy plant person. Houseplants are known to help clean the air inside the home. I’m known as the crazy plant lady if you need suggestions.
  5. Change or clean your furnace or A/C filters at least once every 1-3 months depending on use.
  6. Detox your body. Consider doing a healthy cleanse to rid the toxins hiddening in your body. Click here for one I recommend.
  7. Water is vitally important to flush the toxins our but be careful to filter it. I use a water pitcher/filter that is made of coconut and filters 99.9% of the harmful particulates.

As I am writing up my suggestion list, I have an irritated throat from the smoke that permeated our town. Am I upset? Yes, it could have been prevented (that’s a whole other story) but my message to my friends is to be proactive in taking positive steps to detoxify your homes and bodies now.

My heart goes out to the 2,000 residents displaced. I don’t want to negate the seriousness of this situation but you my dear friend can start today to make your home a safer, healthy and greener home. Will you join me in creating a healthier homes for not only my family but yours?
