Are you all in ?

The secrets to finding balance.

Do you have a book that has stuck with you throughout the years?

I do. It’s a book called “What to do on Thursdays” by Dr. Jay Adams. This practical and helpful book is actually a primer on the application of the Scriptures for everyday encounters. The book teaches you how to apply God’s wisdom on “Thursday” when life seems spiraling out of control.

Recently I’ve been working on the course content and materials for an upcoming retreat entitled “Balancing Life’s Demands.

I love to ask questions, so in preparation, I turned to myself and asked some:

* Where do you turn when your life is spinning out of control?

*How can you tell if your life is out of balance?

*What are the secrets to prioritizing your life----BIBLICALLY?

  • As I dove into scripture it became so obvious that the Lord, in His Wisdom and through His Word had already provided many of the answers to my questions.

  • I'm sure you've heard that if something is repeated more than once you are meant to pay heed. Well, in Jewish Culture, the answer was so important that it was written on their doorposts and repeated throughout the day.

    • In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses addresses the chosen people of Israel.

“1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God

directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,

2 so that you, your children and their children after them may

fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping

all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.

3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you

and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing

with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.

5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.

7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home

and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

  • Today in America, Self Help books are at an all time high. People are searching for Answers, and the secrets for balancing life's demands. I believe that we don't need to turn to the world for help and guidance but to turn to our Creator. Hence, the secret to living a life in balance is loving our God with our whole being.

  • Some questions for you to reflect upon today:
  • 1. If one were to examine your Life, could they tell that you were Living for God?
  • 2. In what ways are you loving God with your heart_____? With your mind _______? And with your strength_______?

  • I truly believe that “Balance” is a catch word in coaching circles these days. The craziness of life, the demands of society, and the pressures of keeping us push our priorities out of sync.

  • So may I challenge you when obstacles and stresses come your way, ask yourself the following questions:
  • 1. How would a heart committed to God respond in this situation?

  • 2. What should a mind focused on the things of the Lord be thinking, learning and reflecting upon?

  • 3. In what ways is God calling me to dedicate my all to Him?

  • 4. How can I be a living, walking, talking example of someone who Loves my Lord with All of my HEART, with ALL of my MIND and with ALL of MY STRENGTH?

  • Until next time, may you “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Blessings,
